Personal Devices


  1. To send us your Laptop
    > We accept laptops that are up to 12 years old (Windows 7 or newer, and all Mac models).

    > Your device will be securely wiped, and we generally do not require passwords. However, please make sure to remove any corporate or firmware security settings before sending it in.

    > We can replace chargers, repair minor issues such as batteries and screens, upgrade your laptop, and install a modern operating system.
  2. To send us your phone or tablet 
    > We accept iPhones starting from the iPhone 5s or Android devices running version 8 or newer.

    > Before sending, please perform a factory reset to unlink your device from your iCloud or Google account. If not, we may have to dispose of the device.

Corporate Devices

  • We work as flexibly as possible to accommodate your security and compliance processes.
  • Many donors prefer to handle device wiping internally or through accredited IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) partners, and we are happy to coordinate logistics with you. Alternatively, we can securely wipe devices in-house using KillDisk software, which provides digital wiping certificates supported by a rigorous process and internal audits at each hub. While we are not a fully accredited commercial service, many partners find this approach useful for their overall risk assessment.
  • We're also happy to collaborate with your PR teams to acknowledge your support, share updates on where your devices have gone, or arrange for your team to visit our sites, learn more about our work, or even volunteer.

Contact details

Please ensure you provide your name and contact information when donating your device, so we can reach out if there is any security that needs to be unlocked before we can use it.

Phone and Tablet Reset

All Apple devices and modern Google devices are linked to your account and can't be used by others for anything but spare parts until they're unlocked. If you're comfortable, you can follow these instructions for Apple or these for Android. Alternatively, when you donate, ensure the device is fully charged and bring your Apple ID or Google account credentials, along with another device on your account if available, and we'll guide you through the process.

Advanced security

Some devices, especially newer laptops, may have extra security features such as firmware or BIOS passwords or encrypted drives that need to be addressed. If you're comfortable resetting these yourself, that's great; if not, we're happy to help you with the details.

Charger

Chargers are one of our biggest expenses, so if you have yours (or any extras), it would be greatly appreciated.

Wipe Down

Please give your device a quick clean with a damp cloth. A microfiber cloth with a bit of water works best for cleaning screens and keyboards without damaging the device.
